Cool, but if this isn't USA made, its 99.9 China made, and most everything that's coming out of China claiming to be d2 is 9cr18mov.

I mostly agree, although you never really know, I've been using the Ganzo knife from china which is just a copy of a CRKT as my daily driver for the past 2 years and it holds it's own very well, At $50 I wouldn't get this but at 30 which is usually my limit for knife purchases (aside from a Benchmade I was gifted) I think it's decent,
Here is a review from a fellow knife nut on youtube [youtu.be] if it means anything.

Would this be any good for my nephew who just joined the boy scouts?

Thanks for supplying the review video. I've never even heard of StatGear. Are they well recieved from knife enthusiasts? D2 steel is nice if this is real. Think I'd rather just get a Kershaw Chive if I wanted a blade that small.

Also, would have been nice if the knife had some decent gimping since it's so small.

I would think so, but personally you might be better off with a leatherman or swiss army knife as long as the knife locks open. The most important safety feature in my opinion is that the knife locks open.

Is it a 3 pack? Photo is misleading.

1 minute review on this D2 knife here for $30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--GReo9YfN4

If they allow sharp knives, then sure, but there has been plenty of better buys at better prices than this. I would not purchase this personally for many reason but please note, this is not a toy by any stretch. If he plays around with it to "test" it's sharpness, he will need stitches. Just forewarning on high quality steels. Watch some youtube videos of knife enthusiasts and check out their hands. Wink

As for D2 , Cedric and Ada's steel comparison for knifes lead him to the comments that he's not happy with D2 testing, has potential to be a heavy hitter, probably needs a toothy edge at 17 degrees, could be one of the best non-powdered steels.

In real world testing, 8CR13MOV performs as well as D2 but D2 holds it's edge longer. If you're trying to learn to sharpen then 8CR13MOV is a great place to start cheap and will perform as well as D2.

S35VN performs better than D2 in every category across the board. Massdrop also sold a 3" knife that was G10 scales at 2.4oz for $40 recently. Was probably the best knife deal on Slickdeals since maybe the coldsteel S35VN for $45 (I bought 3). Cold steel knife was a hell of a lot bigger and better and sharper. The Massdrop needed a sharpen out of the box to be a razor. It wasn't one to whip out and show paper slices out of the box with.

Forreal though, cheap D2 has been one of the least performing steels in real world tests. Most were completely abysmal and you would have been better off with a gas station knife.

Looks to be right hand, tip down carry only. I may be way off by judging from photos and stats only, but it looks to be a smaller knife that claims to have good ergonomics. Those with larger hands (me) might have trouble getting a really secure grip on something like this.

What an awful "deal". Almost as bad as your promoted twenty dollar key chain knife. Actually this might be worse.
