Came to this thread to say the same thing. Keeping the key in the lock is actually a great idea for this. I should do that with my fire safe. I'd rather somebody not steal it expecting something valuable. Burglars aren't usually big on identity theft, and they'd have a heck of a time proving they owned my 2006 Chrysler 300 that I bought in 2006 even with the title.

If you have the store chain ollies around you I believe they're selling a similar safe around $60
