Also they have shut their stores but still paying employees their hours, even for part time folks.

Coupled with their local environmental work, REI rocks.
Not meaning to be preachy, but I'm personally boycotting Backcountry after their recent attempts to litigate smaller companies out of business.
They definitely sell at MSRP/MAP. Nothing at REI is inflated. Other retailers might sell under MSRP, but REI doesn't sell over.

Does the 20% off apply to bikes?

Found much better deals at Backcountry and Moosejaw right now with 12% cb at Activejunkie. Also a great sale going on at Steep and Cheap.
Also, during this time I have been doing a lot of my gear shopping at Sierra where prices are very low along with CB.

At least they completely stopped and apologized. Still prefer not to shop there, but they could have handled things way worse

Not much savings as they inflate the MSRP up. Manage to find a rain jacket for a decent price though, kudos

20% off a full price item? Meh, who cares, their msrp are crazy high so that brings it down to what most people charge.

However, 20% off an outlet item, that can be more useful, problem being that they go an artificially raise all the outlet prices a bit to offset the savings. For example, there was a sweet collapsable table that was 35% off yesterday, and now it is 20% off instead, so in the end you'd really only be saving around 5% difference...

EDIT: Also, the current $20 off $100 is a better deal for many, as it allows you to get 20% off a lot more products if they add up to $100 (and not much past that). If you're trying to buy a $600 sleeping bag, then a single 20% discount is certainly more beneficial, but for most of us who at this time are purchasing essential survival items, and not a North Face jacket...the current deal that expires today is better.
Yes REI items are usually at MSRP, but with items that rarely or never go on sale (Benchmade knives for example), the discount does bring it down to a price that is near secondary market prices without the risk of getting a fake; and it comes with REI's awesome return policy.

I guess it might dependS on what you're looking at, but I personally bought an entire Thule system bike rack for my A3 using this promotion in the past. It was BYFAR the best deal at the time by a long shot and even beat some used prices.

This is just a regular sale. REI does these on average once a month. Why is this even a deal?

20% off full price coupons only happen a couple times a year.
