Chipotle is free through 31 March for $10+. It was a promo to launch their delivery service, but still free for a bit and might get extended for COVID-19 (just speculation on my part).

If people are so worried about going to Costco, Walmart, etc why the heck would you trojan horse potentially contaminated food into your house? That's the easiest way to get the virus. You are digesting food outside your home by people who could be infected. If anything you bums can learn how to cook for yourself for once! It's an important life skill.

Consider it practice. If the Apocalypse happens, there won't be any food delivery trucks for you.
So, the food you get at the grocery, prepared by people, sold on shelves full of food that people touch and walk past all day, is clearly a better option? Unless you're saying we should all grow and raise our own food, which, even if you could, it's not going to help you much right now if you don't already have a farm. It's all a risk. Six of one, half dozen the other.

And I guess grocery stores will also be open during the apocalypse. Good to know.

... for some foods yes, but for anything cooked that comports well to heating further in the microwave (like certain Chinese/Thai, etc dishes) covered for a 2-3 minutes per entre, then let stand the same way for 3 minutes or so, you're likely golden. SARS-CoV-2 doesn't particularly like heat much at all. this way, we can still support the restarurants that desperately need our help right now AND we can enjoy some of the foods we love for a little touch of normalcy.

Yes, because when you get home you wash your hands. You take the food and you cook it. All the potential viruses are killed in the cooking process. When you buy take out you don't know if the people delivering it are coughing/sneezing etc. The cardboard they are handing you, plastic containers, etc can all be contaminated. As you go to eat your hands go from the plastic container to the food. Literally the easiest way to get infected in my opinion since its having direct access into your body. Like I said, its like a trojan horse into your house. You stay isolated in your home and start allowing "intruders" in without even realizing it.

Agreed. When I grocery shop, stuff that doesn't need to be refrigerated or frozen sits in quarantine in the garage for as long as possible before coming inside. Stuff that does need to be chilled right away is wiped down with a bleach solution or disinfecting wipe.

I am just operating under the assumption that everything I buy from now on is infected and needs to be dealt with. The last thing I want right now is a meal prepared by, or even worse delivered by, someone who may be carrying and not know it.

Overkill is underrated.

Considering the virus can only survive for so long outside the body, yes, it is 100% clearly a better option to buy non prepared food at the grocery store. Store it for a day. Good to go. Wash and cook the food is again 100% better than eating already made food that has been handled by 2, 3, 4 or more random people that you don't know if they are sick or not.

There really is no comparison here.

I'm not here to get in an argument, but a quick search says this thing can last over a week on surfaces. It can last hours in the air. Going out to a relatively busy grocery store is exposing you to a lot of people you don't even see. Yes, you can wash your hands, but you can do that with delivery food, too. The virus can be on any surface you touch. Pickup is probably best if you can do some kind of drive through and don't want to make your own stuff. I'm gonna guess these places are in overdrive on cleaning everything, which is easier to do when it's a relatively small place vs. a large grocer. A pizza, for example, comes out of a hot oven, into a box, into a carrier that keeps it hot, to your house.

I'm not trying at all to downplay the seriousness here, but *any* exposure at this point is putting you at risk. Anything you order online is going to be around people and could also bring it into your home. Let's just keep smart about what we expose and when, but unless you live in a bunker, I'm not sure there's a ton of difference here. But, we can agree to disagree like civilized people.

Ya. We get that. We are saying ordering food from delivery is worse than making your own. If people don't have food, it is still going to be a lot safer to go to the grocery store than it is to order delivery. People have to eat. People don't have to order delivery and have their food passed between multiple before 30 mins before you eat.
