Sh*tty deal, as these were less money last month, AND that also included a $100 gift card.
It was cheaper OR it included a gift card. $280 for the phone, of $350 with $100 gift card. And that price has been unavailable for over a month.

Motorola One Hyper is $299 as well right now, on the Motorola site.
Moto phones never get updates for that long

Had to return a refurbished Pixel 3a from eBay recently - the display went black all of a sudden after 4 days and did not turn back on.

I REALLY wanted to like the phone, but apparently it's a common problem (fragile screen). Went with an LG V40 Thin Q instead.

That'd be nice. Looking at upgrading my and the wife's parents from the Moto X4 (unlocked / Android One variant) to a Pixel phone. 3a would be a pretty worthwhile upgrade at $250. Not especially interested in the 4a if the Pixel 5 rumors end up being true (that it'll be a mid-range unit with flagship software, which is what most people want even if they don't know it).

Is there any advantage that the Moto has over the 3a? Genuinely curious; long update life and camera quality that's near the top of even the flagship class phones seem to make the 3a a significantly better buy over pretty much anything else at the same price.

Were you up to date on software? I haven't heard of anything widespread that's related to the screen; the 3a / XL used to suffer from the sleep bug that would cause the screen to refuse to come on because the phone thought you weren't using it. I was under the impression that it was fixed via software. Do you have a link to anything recent indicating that screens are on the 3a are "fragile" in any way significantly different than other phones?

Also, to be clear, this post is for a new phone, not refurbished. AFAIK, you get a full 1-year warranty on the 3a from date of activation. Odds are that a bug or defect will show up well before that time is up.

Why anyone would lock themselves into a contract (even if it's not a "contract" because of BS bill credits) is beyond me. But hey, whatever works for folks.

Love Motorola phones but their cameras suck. Unfortunately.

It's a great phone, had it since release with no issues whatsoever. Only reason I would switch now would be to add 5G. Hopefully 4a or iPhone 9 come with that.

If the Pixel 4 doesn't come with 5G, the 4a definitely won't. Pretty sure it's already been said that the iPhone 9 (SE 2) won't have 5G.
