Not the best wide open, but if you can nail the focus most of the time it's a great value for 1.4

I know what sounds like noob logic, but I mean.. the 1.8 will generally give equal or better results if you stop down this 1.4 to 1.8... so you really need to have that next bit of skill to make it worth it.

Gray market. Some time they were returned and can't be sold in foreign markets as new anymore. Thus being imported to US where there is no standard for gray market items.

Great price!! I personally prefer the sharper pictures I get using the cheaper 50mm f/1.8G though.

Is 50mm considered wide angle?

More of a narrow portrait lens I think.

50 mm on 135/ "full frame" is normal. 50 mm on APS is a short portrait. wide angle on 135/"full frame" starts at 28 mm and gets wider as the focal length gets smaller.

Are you sure? Unique Photo seems to be an authorized Nikon dealer, and I do not see anywhere indicating it to be a grey market lens. I could be wrong though.

I don't know whether they are still authorized or not. But Nikon USA has a minimum price that all its authorized dealers need to follow for each item. And this price is certainly below that. So it can't be a legit price.

Actually maybe you can call B&H and see if they can match that? They will if they are allowed. Please report back if you are successful.

Unique is authorized. You should check before posting "gray market" when it isn't.

As I said, "Nikon USA has a minimum price that all its authorized dealers need to follow for each item". If you are not aware of that, then you shouldn't comment on Nikon items.

Yet, there are various exceptions to that rule. Do you work for Nikon or Unique? If not, don't crap on a deal calling it gray market unless you're sure.

What a stupid comment. Then don't crap yourself unless you are sure it's a genuine new Nikon USA item without any defects.

Their web sells 3 and 5 years Mack warranties. Typically those are sold with gray market items together. Nikon USA lens comes with 5 years warranty itself. So either way, they are scamming people. I just don't trust this type of shops, authorized or not.
