Probably why these are being clearanced. After the service shuts down, the bulbs can still be paired to other Zigbee gateways. However, Sylvania/Osram Lightify is THE buggiest smarthome system I have ever used, even after firmware updates. They don't work well at all with HomeAssistant. They also don't change color temperature. So I will personally stay away.
But $3.83 a bulb, maybe some people will be okay with all of that.

The shutting down part is true, as you said, it doesn't impact anyone who plans to use a third-party platform like SmartThings, Wink or Home Assistant.
But, the second part of what you mentioned is not entirely accurate. The Sylvania bulbs made by LEDVANCE show none of the issues that the original Osram Lightify bulbs had (which were terrible). In fact, LEDVANCE even released firmwares to upgrade the bulbs to Zigbee 3.0. All you need to do is check for the FCC ID printed on your bulbs.
If the ID says DZO - LDV-AETHER, you have the newer bulbs which show no issues.
If it says DZO -IQHOME, you have the older ones which will be plagued with issues due to hardware level limitations.
Using these on Hubitat Elevation. Directly connected to hub
Considering the freaking ripoff that is Hue, these bulbs plus an HE hub that runs it ALL, I'm still banking money.
75 for HE + 22 for bulbs= 6 bulbs, and one hell of an HA platform for under a hundred bucks, can't beat that
UPDATE-these are not color, and it looks like you'll get 6 gateways, who the hell needs 6?
Is the actual wattage of this bulbs really 60W or is it incandescent equivalent? How many lumens does each bulb output? Is this specific one made by LEDVANCE?

It says 60 watt equivalent, actual use = 10 watts, about 800 lumen. Good bulbs and these are the newer ones

Do you know the firmware rev numbers for zigbee 3.0? and do you happen to know if smarthings can update to zigbee 3.0, or only lightify
Good price, will buy if not because I already bought some Ecosmart Smart bulbs from previous Home Depot deal ($5 with individual remote, or use ZigBee hub).
Too bad they're not the color changing version and that website doesn't carry A19 color. I'm looking for them to setup my pouch color light for different seasons. Already got the cheap R30 version for flood lights.
I cant be bothered to "Smartify" lightbulbs. How hard is it to use a wall switch? And if it is for the atic or basement, I will deal with a flash light than to try and remember the app, if I have the app, if the app is updated.,...FK all that. KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid, is OFTEN more effective than BS smarts.

You're kind of underselling the benefits
1. It continues to work on the light switch exactly like a normal bulb. No app required for that.
2. "Alexa, bedtime" makes every light in every room go to exactly the dimness I prefer for the night, or turn off completely. Even if the switch doesn't have a dimmer. Light switches aren't hard; this is even easier.
3. Other routines... turn on the lights when I come home automatically. Put them all on timers. Enable "vacation mode" where it tries to mimic actual usage to fool anyone watching the house. Change the color temp to relaxing in the bedrooms after sunset. Raise them gently with the sun to wake me up. Flash when someone rings my doorbell. Connect to a wireless, powerless light switch, and mount it somewhere more convenient for me.
They're not perfect in every way. But it will always work on the light switch just like a normal bulb, and you get a lot of other benefits if you feel like setting them up.
