On the XM2s I used to have, the headphones would disconnect from my phone after a minute or so if I didn't have audio playing. I couldn't just leave the noise cancelling on without audio. Can someone confirm if this is the same on the XM3s as well?

I lost my XM2s while traveling and have been patiently waiting for the XM3s or Bose QC 35IIs or NC700s to go on a good sale (passed on the recent NC700 sale to $300, Id rather have the QC35IIs). Was more considering Bose due to the above mentioned issue. Wish I could just keep ANC on while on a plane.
