I would strongly encourage you to use black oil instead of general bird seed mix, especially if you have problems with starlings. They will not eat the stuff. I find that house sparrows also do not enjoy it as much as the mix but will still come to it sometimes. It will attract pretty much everything else that you want at your feeder.
