Pirates is relatively fun for 1-on-1 couch play during, say, a quarantine. It's no "Assassin's Creed Pirates," but it's certainly not a waste of 49 cents.

It doesn't, though it does support play via single joy-cons so you don't need a Pro Controller or anything for multiplayer. I wonder if Nintendo allows a mode like that?

If you're asking does Switch support split screen local multiplayer, then yes it does. See Screencheat, Fire Emblem Warriors, etc.
