This was posted earlier today but it had since been deleted. Any idea why?

This hand sanitizer falls well within CDC guidelines. But not sure if it has sanitization certification/approval like Purrell.
Below is the CDC link in general about hand sanitizers:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2...tizer.html

For non-regulated firms, FDA requires 80% eth. alcohol solution on hand sanitizer based upon WHO recommendations: https://www.fda.gov/media/136289/download

I'm an infectious disease epidemiologist who has been working exclusively on COVID-19 since January. I would point out that this is ethyl alcohol (not isopropyl, as some have said), which should ideally be provided in a 70% concentration. 83% will dry out very quickly and, as a result, won't kill as much of the virus as 70% would, unless you apply it several times instead of once. 83% will also dry your hands a lot, so you may need to lotion more often. The CDC recommends not using concentrations higher than 70% for these reasons. That said, good luck finding 70% anywhere right now.

^ As a infectious disease epidemiologist, you shouldn't spread such misinformation. Go look at the CDC and WHO guidelines for hand sanitizer.

* Just as indicated on this packaging, this is not as effective as soap and water on your hands, and is only for those niche cases where you are in an environment where gaining access to water is impossible before touching your mouth, eyes, nose, or food. Most stores, restaurants, and homes WILL have running water, and it WILL protect you better while drying your hands out less: https://www.cdc.gov/handwashing/s...tizer.html

* Be reasonable about your concerns about surfaces. People are the real risk. The only even theoretical concern is surfaces an infected person may have touched within the past several hours.

Quote :
But maybe the guy in the shipping department had Corona with no symptoms and he touched up all over your package which you'll grab off your doorstep. It can live on cardboard for days
No, it can't. It can be detected, but it won't transmit the disease after a few hours.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/2...kages.html

Leave it sit overnight and don't worry about it. Or, open it and wash your hands.

"the durability of some coronavirus on a surface does not mean that it remains just as infectious as the hours go by. Most virus particles degrade in a matter of minutes or hours outside a living host, and the quantity of infectious particles goes down exponentially over time.

Although it is theoretically possible for a person to become infected a day or two after someone has deposited virus particles (for example, by sneezing) on a surface, it is much less likely than in the first couple of hours after the sneeze, said Munster.

I got the following message after I filed an online complaint with froggy's:

"Chris from Froggy's fog giving you a call regarding your Sanitizer Product. Please feel free to call back direct at this number for the next 10 minutes or so. I will then join my family for an online the Easter Service for about an hour and a half.
the smell is completely normal because the sanitizer is made with 80% corn ethyl alcohol. The reason the FDA granted guidance for making hand sanitizer with this ingredient is because there is a national shortage of isopropyl alcohol and grain. The product is 100% safe to use and very effective. Unfortunately corn alcohol does have an odor. According to the FDA guidance we are not allowed to add fragrance or gel to the World Health Organization approved monograph. we have been told to anticipate grain alcohol being available again sometime late April, at which point we hope to go back and continue making hand sanitizer the old way with lower odor. as for now, we must follow and adhere fully to the FDA guidance for the manufacturer of WHO hand sanitizer. Feel free to call back with questions. Just because the government does not allow me to add fragrance to our sanitizers at this time,
does not mean you can't do it. A half ounce of your favorite essential oil will significantly help within 2 days."

He called me back and said he was part owner of the company. We talked for 15 minutes. The smell is from corn ethyl alcohol. He said it comes from Indiana and only contains corn ethyl alcohol and water per testing. I told him my main concern is if the product is safe and doesn't have any carcinogens, I was concerned to give it to my family members. He said it's safe and his wife, children, and mother use it. He also said police agencies and I think Disney world purchased his product. He was sincere and I didn't feel he was lying to me. I appreciated the call and think he's a stand up guy.

I added about 3 to 5 drops of USDA organic lemon oil (Purador 4 oz bottle on amz) per ounce. I plan to use the product.

There is a ton of misinformation in this thread! I'm an infectious disease epidemiologist, btw.

For starters, this is ethyl alcohol, the kind that is in beer, vodka, or... the alcohol-based hand rubs (hand sanitizers) found in doctors' offices, cruise ships, Dollar Tree hand sanitizer, etc. So yes, this is the correct ingredient. This is not isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

83% is higher than you want. It will dry out very quickly. 70% is better, because you can keep your hands wet longer. If you want this to be effective, you may need to spray your hands more than once in order to keep them wet long enough. Get them thoroughly wet, then keep rubbing your fingers together to get every part of your fingers and hands and keep doing so until dry.

This will also dry your hands out quite a bit more than 70% ethyl alcohol-based hand rubs. So be ready to use lotion more often (but not until after your hands have thoroughly dried.

Also, it's unclear what the consistency of this product will be. It may be runnier than most hand sanitizer, though it's hard to say based on the information on the site.

Edit: for information on effective ingredients, see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK513254/, and various other papers.
"Ethanol, the most common alcohol ingredient, appears to be the most effective against viruses; whereas, the propanols have a better bactericidal activity than ethanol."
Everclear is cheapest grain alcohol at $24 per 750 ml bottle. You'll need 5 bottles for a gallon costing $120 (+ the cost of glycerin).

Maybe COVID-19 is going to reduce the number of people that can't do math.
.

Btw, people don't have time to go out and find alcohol and gel. This price per ounce is best deal out there and it's over 80% alcohol.

Plus it's free fedex home or ups ground delivery. Will have Tuesday.

Received tracking numbers already too.

Saw it was deleted also. Shame since it helped me and I'm sure others. Maybe the promo code was a problem.

As for making your own, good luck finding the ingredients if you are in a lockdown state. Foraging locally for ingredients is not worth exposing yourself and others.

This isn't price gouging. Compare unit price per ounce and this is half. It's a gallon of material, not 8 oz plus free shipping.

Which it's not...purell go for 1-2$ per 2oz bottles. That's $60-130 per gallon.
