    I still have a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad n52 that I bought back in 2005 (March 12, 2005 per Amazon) and that design has yet to be improved upon.

    Always wanted to try this one but it's always been so expensive. Had the Logitech g13 and didn't like it's ergonomics. Was looking at the Tartarus pro which is on sale also for 90 but it lacks the customization options. Hopefully the chroma won't be too loud.

    I have the non-Chroma one and have to say these things are awesome. It's definitely better for some games over others, but it allows you to control so much with only one hand and it's much more ergonomic than a standard keyboard. I personally tend to either game alone or using voice chat, so typing on a keyboard isn't necessary.

    What about when Razer copied the design and made it newer? I looked it up and it's exactly the same but with an all black chassis and a Razer logo. Might stand the test of a time a little longer, no?

    There are a few differences; clickable scroll wheel, a button under the d-pad (where the thumb rest is on the Razer), less keys but placed in a way that your palm never had to move. Oh, and costed $25-30 dollars (maybe $30-$40 in today's market). The mechanical keys on the Razer probably are much better and the back lighting is nice.

    Edit, this Razer looks pretty darn close to the N52 and is much more reasonably priced:

    That one looks too flat to be comfortable for long periods of times and is really just half a keyboard. Also it appears to be missing a d-pad which would be a deal breaker for me. I bind jump, sprint, crouch, and prone to the d-pad for playing FPS's.

    I have & use the original N50. I bought ~ 10 of them for $5 each when they were being closed out after the introduction of the N52. I then bought several of the N52s but I do not like them as well.

    I am inept at gaming using the WSDA keys. Thus, I use the Dpad on the N50 for movement. Without a controller like the N50, I would have just given up on gaming.

    I tried that model once. The Dpad "sticks" , meaning if you are moving in one direction, you will continue moving in that direction, even when you remove your thumb from the Dpad. The movement in the 1st direction continues until you press the Dpad in a different direction. Some of the Amazon reviews reflect this issue better than I am explaining it here.

    Like a broken power steering wheel. It won't go back to the neutral position unless you move it yourself

    I have been using this extensively for several months and very much enjoy it. My mouse is a logitech g600 mmo for all the buttons and this, so if you need many programmable buttons try going for multiple peripherals with extra buttons. The razer application for this is quite programmable and extensive, I havent had any needs for any macros that couldnt be done with this. The lighting is also quite nice. The form factor makes me wish i could raise up the middle palm rest as my large hands make me want to have a claw grip and my palms raise above the rest, but you really just need to practice letting your hands go dead weight on the palm wrest and your fingers do the work. I enjoy the concave design of the keys making reaching the lowest set of keys easier. Honestly I havent utilized all the buttons as much as i thought i would, but theres always time to learn.

    cons- I wish the razer program would allow me to have a visual list of my custom keys. I have two monitors and to train myself I want a picture on the other monitor showing what each key has been mapped to. Currently you can only see these mappings if you hover your mouse over the key in the program itself. A small request but one that would be appreciated.

    I dont think many gamers reading this will have an issue with this device.

    Exactly.

    Also, with the N50, you will always go in the direction that you are pressing on the dpad. If you are running forward and then turn around to run backwards, you continue running in the same direction. With the Orbweaver, if you are running forward and then turn around in an attempt to run backwards (headed in the same direction), you will start running in the opposite direction.
