Not particularly thick for an automatic chronograph.

There is a sweet spot for automatic watches where they are not cheap enough to be disposable but not nice enough to justify $200 regular maintenance. These unremarkable $600 watches are neither cheap enough or nice enough to justify buying. Expensive disposables.

One of the few best movement from ETA, Valjoux 7753. Pretty decent deal if you like 43mm and the style

I have the Hamilton X Patrol. I'm no watch expert, but I think the movement is similar, if not the same, to this one. It's a very well made watch. I haven't had any maintenance done to it in the 5+ years of ownership and it's still accurate.

You can skip the maintenance and it won't last as long. When you finally need maintenance, it will cost more than the watch is worth. You can get regular maintenance but it costs a lot. Point still stands that a $600 automatic is an expensive disposable watch.
