FYI this is a AC2200 so if you use a RBK50 which is an AC3000 system or above this extender will slow your current system down to AC2200.

agreed, if you use the wireless backhaul (2x2 vs. 4x4 configurations). But from what i read if you use a wired backhaul, which is the way i have it set up, that won't matter much.

Would that slow down be for the whole system or just for this extender?

RBK50 is 400/866/1733 (2.4GHz/5GHz/Backhaul 4x4). This one is 400/867/867 (2.4GHz/5GHz/Backhaul 2x2). So, if you wire them, you won't see any slowdown. If they are wireless, then, I'm not sure how much of a slowdown you will notice because that backhaul speed is still fast enough.

Was there an update? Or a different configuration (ie, RBR40 router vs RBR50)? I know there's According to this, it performs at AC3000.
