Yep new OS and speculation of new products. The good news is that these speakers will get new OS and likely new audio codecs (hopefully atmos etc). They are quite limited in the video form of audio in their current state. (only Dolby Digital which can cause some issues with certain apps such as Netflix that use DD+ for example)
The biggest difference is SL have apple AirPlay so you can play music without having to login into Sonos app. It's also has an all black outer covering. Sound wise there is no difference
Anyone know if these are Gen 2? I can't tell from the product description
edit: looks like these are technically speaking Gen 2, per Wikipedia:
In addition to the Gen 2, Sonos released the One SL in September 2019. The SL version is the same as the Gen 2 without the microphones (so you cannot use Alexa or the Google Assistant). The SL is intended as the replacement for the Play:1 speakers and addresses the concerns that some users have with smart technology

Appears that way. Sonos recently announced Sonos S2 app/operating system that comes out in June for its next generation of products
