This is very nice hopefully people who don't need it don't try to take advantage of this...stuff like this is very valuable and important for people in need and should only go to people who need it

This will come in very handy for many. I've volunteered in several food pantries and soup kitchens in NYC since the financial crisis in 2008. And just like then, there are many, many people who are food insecure who just a few weeks ago never thought it would be possible.

Breakfast menu says "Meal Kits"? They're handing out MREs, I guess. The lunch menu looks like real, prepared food! Very interesting foods there.

I wonder how they are addressing large groups of people gathering to pick these up. Perhaps the 6ft tape social distancing system stores are doing... I wish it mentioned it. Such a gathering could ironically be a vector for spreading the disease further.

Just edited original post and added more free meals from World Central Kitchen that make meals available in NJ and NYC. Linkey [wck.org]

WCK distributing meals in The Bronx, Queens, Harlem, Brooklyn & New Jersey. As the immediate and ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States continues to evolve, World Central Kitchen is working to identify needs across the country and how to respond most effectively. Beginning Tuesday, March 17, in partnership with Bronx Assemblymember Michael Blake of the 79th District, WCK will distribute thousands of fresh, individually packaged grab-and-go meals to local families.

These meals are available to anyone in the area who needs extra support during this uncertain time. Using our expertise as a food logistics organization, we are distributing meals at the designated sites listed below during lunchtime. They are individually-packed fresh meals, ready to heat at home.

If anybody has children in school and needs meal assistance, I'd also recommend taking a peek at https://labs.mapbox.com/narrative...oramerica/ (an off-shoot page I found from the original thread link) too... I just learned that a lot of school districts around me are doing free meals with a student ID too, whether or not they were originally eligible for free/discounted meals.

Such a noble cause. Like someone mentioned, the people picking up should follow social distancing. Wish you a speedy recovery NY and whole of the country...

Many of the schools in Georgia are doing free lunches/breakfasts each day. They will be starting to do it every other day (double lunches and breakfasts) starting next week. Just drive-up and they hand your kids a bagged lunch/breakfast.

The idea is great but the execution is going to be terrible. There will be thousands of people waiting in a line to get food and that will be a breeding ground for the virus.

People gotta eat...and I am sure they will figure out a way to keep it manageable.

I've already gone for two days now (Friday, Monday). They have blue tapes with 6 feet in between, the door is open and you never enter the school. There's a barrier at the door so you can't go inside.

YMMV but in the two days I've gone there was nobody there (went in the late mornings). The food is decent and you can get for multiple people even though they aren't present. You get cereal, milk, juice, sandwiches (peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter, turkey and cheese, grilled cheese), sunchips, chocolate chip cookies (sealed), fruits (apples and oranges), yogurt.

There's a school two minutes away from my house, got home in less than ten minutes without any contact with another person other than the person giving you the food (they put it on a table and you pick it up)

Thanks for the info... I don't need this (other than not being able to get Instacart order!!) but I'll drive past a school tomorrow in Queens if I can and see what it looks like and report back.
