The inexpensive 82" LG and the 82" Samsung that just dropped to $1200 are VA panels. Just good enough contrast/black levels imho.
I'm not sure about the Samsungs but the low cost 86" LG's are IPS panels and the contrast/black levels aren't good enough (again my .02). So if you want big and cheap my .02 the 82" are the way to go.
That is until this $700 75" Samsung rolled out on the field. It's really insane. TV's are turning into smart devices where they want that tasty user data so much the prices are dropping and dropping and dropping.
My first plasma was a 42" and I'm pretty sure it was over $2k.
The 82" deal is far better than this 75" deal. The reason why this TV is so cheap is because all the panels used for this model are sourced from Chinese display manufacturers; hence, the missing 3 year manufacturers warranty. Whereas, all the panels used in the 82" were all sourced from Samsung display (which is shown as Panel Version FA01 on the UPC sticker on the box)
In for for 1. Been looking for a solid 75" TV for our living room for about two months. Our needs are not super high, we watch a little netflix and I play some video games so we are fine without a top of the line unit. This is the best bang for your buck TV I've seen since I've been on the hunt. Thanks OP!
Note that this uses Purcolor so your not going to get a true Red like on a better TV.
Yes, its a color TV but if you read reviews and read tom hardware who said the picture look dull...it does look dull. I tried to calibrate the TV at Costco and could not even come close to the TCL or Vizio low end models. Good contrast...but colors are pretty dull.
When you get a tv with a wide color gamut...you never want to buy a tv without it. It really gives a pop to the screen.
I think you be better off getting the 7 series versus the 6 series. I would recommend the 7400 which is 8 series at 60hz. Or an 8 series.

Bought this TV about 2 years ago, a year later I noticed vertical lines running thru the display. I was a month over the 12-month manufacture's warranty, therefore, I was SOL.
If you buy this TV, make sure to get the extended warranty. Don't make the same mistake I did. That is all.

If the monsters like you mention keep dropping in price I will end up with a 75 inch in the bedroom and that 60 inch...somewhere
