That design is crazy. Buy this and you're just asking for skin cancer. UVC light should never hit the skin or the eyes.

If this wand is actually emitting the UV light it claims (who knows with this chinese crap), it is extremely dangerous for your skin and eyes. You would never want to turn it towards your eyes (or skin) as pictured. Even the reflected UV light would be damaging to skin and eyes. If using something like this, you should have UV filtering eye protection and other measures to keep the reflected light from your skin. This is a crazy dangerous device to hold in your hand and shine around.

This is UV-C. Is that less dangerous?

Far UV-C is less dangerous, but this is a UV-C light. He's right about the potential for eye damage with UV-C lamps.

I've seen UV lamps used with a lidded foil lined box [makezine.com] for disinfection if you wanted to use one safely.

Even worse. Consumer products don't use UV-C at all, so they just don't work.

I picked up a couple of these to make an ad-hoc sterilization box. They're surprisingly well made. There is no on/off switch - just plug in and unplug. Works great for my need. Shipped quickly from the US and arrived in a couple days. Cheaper options certainly out there if you can wait for shipping from China.

Looking by design it's LED instead of vapor traditionally used in commercial applications.
And real UV light is blue, not purple.

https://www.cureuv.com/products/g...sterilizer

This is unit that will kill germs and common cold viruses for sure, no data on Covid19 yet. UV light was in use in air and water sterilization for years. All good air purifiers use UVC light with filters. Right now all commercial UV supply already depleted. Real problem with future production is quartz glass used in UV lights coming from Italy, should i explain more?
So UVC light is valuable solution for sterilization if it's implemented right.
