Actually the promo ($5 off making it $26.99) says "online only" so definitely don't go to a store. (people still go to stores?). And if you have Target RedCard (I recommend), you get free shipping on most items, including this, and an extra 5% off. Just ordered for delivery in 2 days, pretty good!

"Just use a $200 dollar power tool" sounds pretty smart-butt to me. Sharpening garden tools comes with the territory, and Fiskars makes nice stuff.

I don't think anybody who's even remotely interested in this deal has "any branch more than 2 inches or so in diameter" in mind when it caught their eye.

Actually I agree to an extent. I use a dewalt recip saw with a diablo prune blade for medium to large branches. Provides super quick clean cut. Hand tools for anything smaller. The recip saw was maybe $119 bucks a few years ago with 4 ah battery. Plus use it for so many other projects.

With as many times as these deals have been posted I'd imagine a large number of SDers have a ryobi or dewalt recip saw. Pruning blades are cheap

im not trying to be a smart butt, i mean this seriously. just use a sawzall w a wood cutter blade. its so so so much easier and so much better. and quicker.

plus this is the cheap set and well lose its edge quicky. unless you sharpen yourself, dont do it. any branch more than an 2 inches or so in diameter will be a pain with these cheap ones.

I love my Fiskars tools and have had no issues with them getting dull. They work well for fall and spring cleanup. I just used the lopper tool to cut the suckers off a couple of my fruit trees with no issue. And I used the pruner to cut a grape vine off of my garden fence. These are not meant to cut down a 2" branch.

Maybe it's because I'm female, but I have no use for a sawzall. I have had these tools for probably 15 years and they work well for me.

I have to second this!
Loppers have their purpose but if you are anywhere near an outlet a cheap reciprocating saw will make this work much faster.

You can pick up a recip saw from HF for $19.99 all day long.
Get a pack of wood blades or even, yes, they make pruning blades for < $10.
Then of course you will need an extension cord.

I've had my $20 HF recip saw for 6-7 years now - still works great - I use it for construction projects but mostly to maintain 400' of fence where thicket likes to grow. I use a cheap wood blade and can cut the thicket out below ground level, i.e. at the roots. If i tried to use loppers I wouldn't be able to get below ground level and also it would take me months and my hands/arms would be killing me. With a cheap reciprocating saw I can groom back about 40-50 feel of fence in an hour.

A Reciprocating saw is a wonderful tool and it has many many more uses than just pruning trees unlike this lopper/pruner set.

Don't buy. Bought them last year and the hand pruners broke free first time I used it.

While I loved the set I had, expect the plastic stopper/spacer to snap on the shears. I did an RMA on my same model pair years ago for this reason. It was a PITA for a $12 pair of shears, but that is a flaw in these. No other complaints, these are ergonomic and the loper pruner held up to normal use.

Pay more for the power gear loppers. Love mine, they go through big branches with ease (big for loppers, not like big that you should be using a saw for anyways...). You could probably snap through a femur if you needed to.

The pruner sucks. I just bought it this weekend and regretted it right away. It didn't close all the way when making some cuts and feels like it will break if used regularly.

I have the looper and it works very well for my needs (a few small trees and bushes in my property). This set is perfect for most people. It seems that every time a deal on an inexpensive tool is posted it gets trashed by people who think it is better to get a way more expensive contractor level grade tool instead.

But if somebody posts a pricey but quality item, you got cretins coming in talking about how a cheaper one will do the same job for infinitely less.

That's just slickdeals for ya!
