They may have changed it since I played it, but this is one of the few games (only game?) where I'd recommend playing on Easy, but it depends on what you want out of the game. I tried it on both Normal and Hard at first, and I didn't really find it difficult per se, just really annoying. The Alien seemingly humps your leg all the time, so for me, it stopped being scary and just became a tedious version of tag, where when you get tagged you get an alien mouth thing through your head.

On Easy, the Alien will still appear if you go running around everywhere, and it'll still kill you instantly at times, but you're given a longer leash. Think of it more like hide and seek, where the tension is allowed to build, so when you do encounter the Alien, it freaks you out that much more. On Easy, the scares definitely never get repetitive because they happen less since you see the Alien less (though in a way the added tension may make you jump at other noises more often). You can also die in different ways to the Alien (no spoilers, but in the late game it's...clever, to say the least).

But like I said, it's what you want out of the game. If you want a challenge, play on a higher difficulty. If you're more like me, and you want to really get lost in the story and atmosphere, play it on Easy. Oh, and headphones and a dark room are a must.

How long is this game? Do the scares get repetitive? I have seen it in a few compilations on YouTube, and it seemed like it's basically the same scare just in different areas. Thanks for any input

Scares don't feel repetitive. This is partially due to the ai being very intelligent and acting nothing like a normal computer character. You never know if he will or will not check certain areas and if he will be like a ninja in the rafters or just straight up Hunter. The inability to use flashlight/weapon/radar at same time makes things interesting too. It is definitely worth getting even at $20
