Update: Emailing them from their website works great. They will call you directly and they will have a written record of your complaint.
You can also call 1-800-824-9081 and at the voice menu say "cancel service".
I called DirecTV to see what counter offers they had in place. I am only a Select Choice customer from 1997 and have a 40 hour Tivo unit, and get free local channels. So my monthly bill after taxes is now $51.
Current deals:
$10 off a month for the next 12 month - no commitment
OR
$100 credit on your bill - no commitment
AND/OR
Free channels for a few months - no commitment
AND/OR
Miscellaneous DVR type of freebies/discounts - normally 2 yr commitment required.
Original posting deals that were going on:
Here is what the rep outlined (they know about the Dish Network special):
- Upgrade Tivo to 80 hour free, and gives you a $100 rebate on top of that
- 2 months Premium service free
- 6 months of Showtime free
- 3 months of Starz free
Hmmm....decisions, decisions.
Good luck!

What channel package did you get?
So for those of you that are wondering - as far as I can tell suspending your account does not extend your agreement.
1 Free HD DVR (the new one with VOD)
2 HD DVR for $99 (the new one with VOD)
3 HD service free for a year
4 Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, HBO free for 6 months
5 Free install
6 $10 off per month for a year
We called and the first person we talked to did not want to give us anything. Got switched to a second person who would not give us anything. Finally got a supervisor the third time around and got the above offer. I thought $99 for two HD DVR's was pretty sweet along with all the other discounts I am a happy camper.
Good luck to everyone getting this deal.

I called 1-800-494-4388 and suffered through some of the stupid voice prompts.
Then I just said "cancel" (old trick) but told the pleasant CSR guy I was just trying to downgrade my HD + package to save money and flustered by the voice menu. He immedieatly offered 5$/mo off but I politely complained about paying for another HD extra $4.99 fee a few months back. Then he doubled down with $10/mo off for a year. I didn't want to push my luck but I was interested in Cinemax and he threw in 3 months free also on top of the instant discount. I thanked him and told him I'd spread the good word about Directv.
on the menu i said 'cancel'
spoke with a nice lady for 10 minutes.
told her that ATT came to my house and offered me a great deal with their UVERSE service.
She knew what I was talking about although I was bluffing regarding the deal I got. and 3 minutes later gave me all that:
free HD for 6 months
$10 off/6 month
1 month for free
free hbo/showtime/encore for 6 months
I hope that helps guys...
GOOD LUCK!
Btw, i called at 11:30 Pacific time, so maybe the late hour had a plus ;@)
Over all, i am happy...

I took the offer

internet, so that's an option as well). The problem is that I really like the Sunday Ticket.
If they call my bluff and I cancel, would they let me sign up as a "new customer" in, say,
August, and get all of the free stuff that way?
I want to have this figured out before I call.
Thanks in advance.
