This program is for consumers energy customers (Michigan based utility company).

The program and incentive has been out for a while now, but I thought I would post today since they just added support for Ecobee thermostats. Before, the program was limited to Nest/Sensi thermostats, but today Ecobee rolled out ECO+ which somehow makes it compatible with the Consumers Energy program.

If you were in a similar situation (Ecobee owner) with your own utility company, you might want to check the Ecobee App. Setup was painless and took about three clicks to enroll. It says the money will be mailed to you in 3-4 weeks after your eligibility is confirmed.

It did say that you can dis-enroll at any time via the app.

Enjoy!

Steps to enroll:
Quote :
Enroll your ecobee using eco+
Open your ecobee mobile app to set up eco+ for your home.

If you don't see an eco+ invitation, select eco+ from the main menu on your home screen, and enable it.

Select your utility information and click "Enroll Now" to enroll in the Peak Power Savers® Smart Thermostat Program.

That's it!

So what happens next? The Smart Thermostat Program will verify settings on your ecobee and confirm your eligibility. We'll reach back out if we encounter any problems.

Your $75 Prepaid Mastercard will ship 3-4 weeks after your eligibility is confirmed and you are enrolled in the program.

As part of eco+, you may choose to participate in the Peak Power Savers® Smart Thermostat Program with Consumers Energy. If you participate, Consumers Energy will make slight temperature adjustments to your thermostat when electricity demand in your community peaks to help reduce strain on the energy grid without compromising your comfort.

As a thank you, Consumers Energy will reward you with a $75 Prepaid Mastercard® for enrolling a thermostat that controls a central air conditioning system into the program, plus an additional $25 Prepaid Mastercard® at the end of the summer for participating.

Make a difference
Hot summer days create heavy demand on the energy grid. During these periods of increased need, we sometimes need to draw on more power sources, and energy can get more expensive.

As part of the Smart Thermostat Program, we'll inform you when these more expensive peak demand periods are coming up and use our technology to shift your energy usage to off-peak hours — while also keeping your family comfortable during times of peak energy usage. Choose clean today for a brighter tomorrow.

Here's how it works:
Once you sign up
The Smart Thermostat Program syncs to your thermostat to understand what keeps you comfortable and how your home uses energy.

Energy Savings events
Occasionally on those really hot days when demand for energy is high, we'll schedule an Energy Savings event. This is when the Smart Thermostat Program will kick in.

Effortless comfort
Our smart technology pre-cools your home using your comfort preferences when energy demand is lowest. This helps you stay comfortable before, during, and after the event while conserving energy during peak times.

Easily plan ahead
You will be notified before every Energy Savings event so you have time to plan. It's your home – so you're always in control. There will be no more than 14 events this summer, and each event will typically last no longer than 4 hours.

Make a difference
The Smart Thermostat Program and Energy Savings events are an easy way to reduce your carbon footprint and keep energy costs more affordable without ever lifting a finger! Make a difference for the planet without noticing one at home.

Yes, but you can override it manually at the thermostat. Can't via phone that I am aware of.

I found it out after soaking in sweat for a few days this past summer.

I have a Smart Si Ecobee. Just push the center button twice on this one and it asks if you want to not participate in the energy savings event.

Mine arrived today and installed it... not nearly as crisp as the regular nest but simple enough for my mom to use.

I'm a gas only customer, but it says I still qualify when I put in my account number. Doesn't seem being an electricity customer is a requirement.
