Would this prevent cancelling/refunding your membership later on if you don't end up using it? Typically you can get a refund on a membership within 364 days, although the staff generally aren't very happy to do it.

Actually 13 months. Sign up June 1st 2020 and membership expires June 30th 2021. Membership expires the last day of the month you sign up.

The day you activate in store. So you can buy now and hold onto activation code until when you need it. I highly recommend using a different email and using a different family member to get around 18 month renewal rule.

wouldn't they still check for your address, so that would still break if someone else in the household had member ship last year despite you had no membership/access to costco?
