The write speeds on these are dog slow, so keep that in mind. It also appears that sales tax is calculated based on the list price, which might kill the deal for some people. There are also some reviews that say they get too hot and go into permanent write protection mode.

I think "dog slow" is a little unfair. The Ultra's are rated for 150 MB/s, which isn't that bad. Alternatively, I do like these for a couple bucks more;

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BA...B07BPHN7LV

They're 200 MB/s. You can get faster ones, but usually the price jumps up a decent amount.

Exactly! Im all about Samsung these days, but the 256GB version of the Samsung BAR hasn't dropped below $42 in quite a while. I've been watching for months.

Amazon seems to have them rated at 100 MB/s: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ul...B00KYK2ABI

Unless that's a different product?

These USB drives aren't the fastest (I prefer the extreme series from sandisk) but they have been solid. I have a bunch that i've used daily for work for the past 4 years and they are still going strong.

The chip speeds basically are flawed chips that only write slower within a certain thermal profile upon testing. Mfg don't cripple mfg'd chips on purpose. This the pricing scheme to salvage the silicon.
