I did this yesterday, worked great!
They are offering a free exam in most states. YMMV if your state is eligible. It's for a basic exam for contacts that you can do at home on a computer with a webcam. Prob would work on an iPad also.
It's meant to be a basic exam, took me 5 mins to do, and just for renewal. You should NOT do this if you have eye issues or feel like you need a real exam.
BUT the best part is, you get an actual PDF of your prescription that you can download and take somewhere else to buy contacts with and a more resonanable price vs 1800 contacts.

AND if you need contacts, I have VSP through my work, I've ALWAYS found it cheaper to order through walgreens use whatever 25% or 30% coupon code is available and then submit an out-of-network claim through VSP.

An eye doctor not only looks at what your rx is, but they also assess the health of the eye. I have found tumors, cancer, abnormal lesions, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts etc, and that can't be found on a computer exam. Don't you want to make sure your eyes are healthy (not just the new rx)? You only have 2 eyes, don't try to play eye doctor and do an eye exam on your computer.
Again, give it a shot if you want, but you are gonna have a bad time if your rx is incorrect. You'll waste money on CLs, and time because you'll still have to have an eye exam by an actual doctor.
Would you give yourself a cardiac exam on your computer to renew your high blood pressure medication? Then why would you think a computer program is better at checking your eyes than a doctor who went to school for at least 8 years?
*most* Eye doctors are currently open. Just call your eye doctor for an exam and save yourself the future headache.

Just pick up the phone to call your eye doctor to see if they're open..doesn't take but a minute. I've left my office cell number on the door and answering machine and patients have been texting and calling me all through this ordeal from March-April..I've made the journey up to my office to either print up, gave out trials to help them get by, remove metal from eyes, and to drive an important point home, treated ALOT of contact lens related infections the past 2 months. My office has been open since the start of May, and most offices are opened back up.
