Anyone that got trained by the phone industry to pay more than $500 for a phone should have their head examined.
This is the first time I have seen a best buy phone show the same price for "activate today" and "activate later."
Some people simply don't have the time or desire to jump through hoops to extract the value that you detail. I'm not a fan of LG, but given the specs here, and the fact that this phone is currently getting Android 10, this is a decent deal.

As someone that's owned multiple LG's and currently typing from the G8, likely a decent device that will be, if not already, updated to 10. I wouldn't expect much for updates beyond that, if not for a while. I hated the V30 for software issues (mainly Bluetooth) but haven't had the same issues with my G8.

At this price, I wouldn't recommend it. Can be found on Swappa much cheaper, albeit used. LG's don't hold value well, but if you're looking for brand new with no intention of swapping until it's dead, go for it. Not sure if they're doing the 2 year LG Promise anymore.

Some other specs: 6GB ram. Oled screen. Android 8.0. Snapdragon 845. Release date Oct 2018. The benefit here would be the battery.

Not sure about the One Plus, but a month ago the LG Thin Q had a deal for about $250 on Ebay. I went with that one for my teenage son and it has been a great phone. I have owned the V20 (2x) and the V30 and have liked the LG phones for what they are. They aren't a Note 8/9/10 but they also don't try to be.
