Great for those on a sub $2K budget -- although does have some limitations...

It was available for day or two only. Not sure when they will have the same deal back.

Rtings is a decent site but their reviewing of one TV from a lineup and applying it to all models in the lineup is beyond stupid.

In this 8070 series the 82" is a VA panel, 86" is an IPS.

Just my .02... but I have the 82" and went with it as the black levels / contrast was just acceptable to me, especially given the price at the time.

The 86" is IPS which is great for viewing angles but the contrast performance is marginal at best. I'm not debating the price vs. size value but there's a minimum point of black level performance I can stand, and the 86 / IPS just doesn't cut it.

The 82" model has been down as low as $1200 and I think it's the pick of the lineup. The 86" / IPS value sets just aren't quite there yet. Lots of new TV tech coming that will likely fix that but then the prices will be high again. Cheap and big right now, the 82" is still the winner. Who knows in a few months though.

Agreed -- Ratings upsells some of these new TVs. For general cable that needs to be upscaled to 4K my F8000 looked night and day better than even the Samsung flagship Q90 (same 75") sure I lose HDR/4K on that set but to be honest at the viewing distance in the room 10-16.5ft I don't really gain anything from the 4K and still get to keep 3D and the money in my pocket... The 75" F8000 from 2013 has been a great investment as I picked it up for $3500 when it was going for $5K and other than a bad HDMI port no issues (only need one port as everything goes through my receiver...

STOP. Don't get the lg 86"! Their 86" have an ips panel. The black levels will look god awful. Sony's X850 85" have a VA panel. Much much better black levels. Don't listen to rtings they didn't review the 85" model. Smaller size X850 have IPS but 85" models are VA.

Never LG again. Never never ever ever since they gave me months of run around and lying and ignoring on an attempted warranty claim.
