The 35lb rating is probably a "pull" rating so if you are pulling something off or away from the magnet it will take that much force. However if you are mounting something more the likely it'll be hanging and there won't be a lot of shear strength where the pull with be vertical or parallel to magnet.

I grabbed 4 (limit). these do a pretty good job for pistols, haven't tried a rifle or shotgun.
