you must be talking about the NEW Gravity HD29 SX EAGLE 1X12 for 699.99
Yeah I agree. The Fantom 29 Comp is way better and cheaper.

I posted it up on my Immortal thread...I bought the Carbon Immortal road bike, but also this Gravel Bike: http://www.bikesdirect
However, do you get any bike service from a qualified mechanic from Dicks? That, and the ability to ride the bike are huge advantages.
Deore is good stuff, very durable. BD is the most bike for the money, but you need to know what you are doing. The above bike was easy to assemble but I had problems with the Immortal that added $100. The bikes fit, so its good. If this bike fits and it is assembled properly for you then it is worth paying more. I am 58, and I will smoke it with my new gravel bike, LOL
And no, this is the worst time to buy a bike. The LBS had a long line of people with fat open wallets. It is not a bad shop, it is just supply and demand.

Edit: That is a strong bike for the money. New eagle 1x 12 I just have a mile or 2 of tarmac before I get to the dirt. Plus that frame won't fit me. Good for someone who wants that type of bike.
That being said, the Avalanche is a good bike but overpriced. The BikesDirect bikes are usually outdated frames with higher spec components. And a horrible website interface.
