This is my first deal post so bear with me, please. I was in home depot looking to replace my old showerhead and I really liked this Moen Attract Model #26008SRN. I was going to buy it full price until I arrived at the self-checkout and it scanned at $0.01!!!! I purchased the brushed nickel version, not sure if the other color would've rung out like this. This is probably very YMMV but I'm posting a pic of the receipt along with the home depot link to the product.

Do/can they sale those penny items? Once, I had the cashier check the price before I buy an item and I was told it's a penny item that they can't sell. This was years ago and I don't even remember what the item was.

those are just lucky... it sometimes doesn't work at self checkout and need an override which they won't sell of course, don't waste time on this.

Har har Smilie

"OH! Yeah, um, i can't sell this to you ..... I'm sorry"

..... as she/he puts it quietly under the register, so they can buy it later.

Wink

I had a DVD @ Dollar Tree ring-up a penny ...... and it was like i pulled the fire alarm, "OH!!! WAIT!! You can't buy that !"

"..... why?"

"Because Corporate prices SKUs at a penny when they don't want us to sell that item"

So. For some reason that DVD was going back to Corporate.

Nope. I don't remember the title. I do remember I couldn't get it ..... i think it was a kid's DVD, because my daughter gave me grief about not getting it, LOL!!

They should not, few nice cashiers let it go as they it wasn't customer's fault that item was still on the shelf. People try on self checkout with 1 or 2 regular price items.
My opinion is that risk reward is high. I will not drive 50 miles to try my luck, but for most of us it is just few miles drive. So worth trying.

Clearance, BS doesn't show prices for HD, it can be 1c off instead of 1c. If cashier sees you scanning it or they do at 1c they will most likely take it away. I usually "hide" them in between other stuff I buy on the self checkout lol.

I guess I'm confused. How do these items even become 1c in the first place?

They clear them down and final price tag is 1c because I think those items end up on various materials auctions and get sold cheap, when someone tries to bring them to HD to get a store credit they get 1c since they won't have receipt for them. It's just one of reasons I'm sure but important IMO.

Found last one at my HD. Unfortunately, went to self checkout and it scanned full price at $100. It seems that several HDs in the DC area have these still available but Brickseek shows all still have pricing at $100.

How do you know the item will be 1c, if BS doesn't show the price? I see the store nearby have some, but it shows the same price for all stores in the area - $99.99. Is there any way to find out the price before scanning the item on self checkout?
