Abe's of Maine has the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR Lens on memorial day sale at $1029. I've never purchased from this retailer before, they're not a Nikon authorized dealer. I've heard they sometimes sell imported items.

So you found a worthless blog as a credible source for a worthless site?
Anyone who google's, "abe's of maine" will return extremely negative pages associated with them... If you aren't a shill, you are horribly unequipped to be recommending deals to people.
Let me repeat, you are helping to rip off people - just about the scummiest thing to do and if you did it innocently, then keep this as a reminder you are doing real damage by not doing your research.
Grey market, no included warranty but you can purchase one from them. The US version from other sites is $1400. I've bought plenty of grey market Nikon gear in my 40 years as a photographer and it is a great way to save money. Nikon is excellent and the chances of needing warranty repair on a lens within their warranty time is low unless you use it every day for work. If I were in the market and wanted to save then I'd feel comfortable buying from Abe's. They've been around for a long time. Many retailers sell grey market. Not all can afford new US Nikon gear, especially if you want a bag full of it.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about or you're a schiller for Abe's.
The reputable "Abe's of Maine of old" you're speaking of was sold more or less a decade ago and can only be described as an unscrupulous bait and switch operation now. In my 20 years as digital photographer (since we're qualifying ourselves now) who purchases grey market and used gear exclusively online, I can say from one PERSONAL experience Abe's of Maine should be avoided.
Adorama and B&H both sell "international warranty" items and are highly reputable.
