Would these still work if the cell network goes down in an emergency or EMP?

+1 for including the programming cable. These things always seem to grow feet and run off just when you're looking for them.

Fantastic deal, they are usually $22-23 on a good day. I wish I needed five but I only need two. Thumbs up!

Line a small dry bag with foil and put them in there.

Good deal as it includes the programming cord. These are decent radios for the price and programming is much easier with the cable. Ordered.

Going on what I've heard from Dr. Peter Pry of the Congressional EMP Commission, the nations likely to use EMP weapons against us are currently in possession of extremely powerful "super EMPs" against which far more shielding would be necessary. This foil bag solution might be effective against certain solar EMPs, though, which automatically makes it better than nothing.

That said,if you want to adequately protect any electronics from an EMP attack, I highly recommend that you check out Dr. Pry's work as he's widely considered the foremost expert on the subject. It's unlikely any of us here on SD will possess the knowledge to give you completely reliable advice.

I saw five walkies and I thought wow what a good bargain for the kids. Now y'all talking about programming and previous threads. The kid walkies are ALWAYS trash, if I gave my group of Kids some that worked be amazing. But are y'all saying these are like the ones where I'm going to cops and fire trucks in my driveway?
