anyone else think it's crazy how generations of motherboards + processors get increasingly expensive?
Yup, you would think since Intel has been stuck on 14nm for so long they would give consumers some nice price cuts. But people are still buying these at the high prices, so no incentive unfortunately.

This generation in particular Intel seems to have gone with the plan of maintaining the image of being "premium" by being more expensive. It seems like a crazy idea, but it works surprisingly well for Starbucks, etc.
I'm already afraid that AMD will follow that lead with Zen 3, and we'll look back on this past year or two as a golden era of affordable, powerful chips

Id say worse case is amd just brings out the XT refresh in 2-3 months, and then delays zen3 till q1 of 2021.
But hey at least amd chips go down in price. Intel they just go away, they never get cheaper. There are no sales on z390 or i7-9700k right now.

Chinese licensing of x86 (licensed by AMD when they were in a tight spot with foundries)is a few generations behind (7th gen i5), but could bring real deflation of a computing bubble with Dragon cpus.
Price fixing collusion is something memory manufacturers have had scandals about for a long time, but there's also the type of contractual B2B bundling like Qualcomm does to phone manufacturers that's hiked up that price through the roof. Last i checked they were winning against the lawsuit against them too, maybe like the HMOs have their way with the price of health care. The Athena certification is kind of bringing things tighter coupled, conglomerates could do full-stack economy like Korean versions of Zaibatsu that esdential go from cradle ro grave under one specific brand name or other.

I mean, they've only gotten more expensive recently due to corona virus. Processors are cheap. You can still get an i5 under 200, a 6 core ryzen under 200, motherboards under 100 (b450/h370) and this performs relatively similar to a $500 intel chip or a $750 amd chip.
Back in the first gen i7 days, you had to still pay $800+ for a i7-970/980. FX 9570 were near 800+. Just because a company releases a higher tier chip doesn't mean you have to buy it. Not everyone needs a 10900k or a 3950x.
OP fix the price field or change title to reflect i5 listed first....
Showing $324 price with title starting with asus board plus i7. That price in the "price section" is for the i5. Misleading. Thought it was a good deal for a second.
Should have added that Arm desktops are on the horizon from their forked approach by mobile and server - it could neutralize the rise of a x86 triumvirate, especially so if the open engineering version not even on the cards were to someday be competitive after it breaks the field up
Every single board in the list comes with no PCI Ex 4.0 and CNVi 2 support. I don't see any useful features in the entire lineup to convince me upgrade from 9 gen...

These are NOT A GOOD DEAL.
The 10400 and 10700 processors are locked, meaning you are giving up the benefit to pairing them with a Z490 motherboard. But you are still paying the premium for z490 over a board that is actually meant to go with these cpu choices.
Use the ASRock B460 PRO4 or any of the other H and B series boards and you'll save yourself $100.
While I do think that the 10400 and 10700 parts are DOA because they don't make sense for almost anyone to buy given the other availible options that beat them out in almost every way, even disregarding that, pairing them with a z490 board is in and of itself a BAD DEAL.
In fact, every option other than these deals is better:
A 9th gen Intel unlocked processor and z390 motherboard is a better deal (if you need the single core performance)
A Ryzen 3000 cpu and b450 board is a better deal (if you need the multi core performance)
And if you want to spend $550-$600 on your CPU/Mobo and HAVE to go Intel (for whatever reason) You should be getting a 10700K and z490, not the locked 10700 and an overpriced board for it.
There is almost nobody on this forum who would benefit from this deal post, other than newegg because of the money.
