2017 as a mid-range to upper-midrange card (basically as a slightly overclocked/modified RX 480). However, bang for the buck (for 1080p gaming), this card still performs very today even with new Triple-A releases. At 1080p, this game will play past and new release games at 60+ fps at high-ultra settings though of course there are some exceptions that are very unoptimized (e.g. Assassin's Creed Odyssey) where some settings need to be dialed down.

Not a fan of MIR, but at $135 for a new card with warranty, this is a great price; used 8gb RX 580s pre-pandemic could be had for $100-110, nowadays they are around $150+ used on eBay, which is ridiculous since you could get the similarly performing but more efficient RX 5500 XT for a little bit more.

On the NVIDIA side of things, the main competition is the GTX 1060 6gb, which performs similarly and costs about the same $150+ used on eBay, though with updated Radeon drivers and the extra VRAM, the RX 580 edges it out currently by 5-10% in performance. This card also trades blows with the 1650 Super, though those are brand new at $160+ and are limited by 4gb of VRAM which may be detrimental with some newer games requiring more VRAM for textures.
This isn't an enormous upgrade to a 480. I'd hold out for a newer gen if I were you.
Still the best way to go to for entry level gaming on your computer.

I'm in for one. Not a bad price for RX580 with 8GB, Mainly will use for photography and occasionally a game.

Cities Skylines could really benefit from that 8gb of ram. Time to pull the trigger.

This will probably sound like a dumb question, but didn't this card come out in 2017? Is this still the best bang for the buck (for an entry level system) or are there better, newer options?

I really like this card. It's meets the price and performance for the games that I play.

Would anyone be able to tell me if this is better than my Radeon RX480? and if so its it worth the upgrade or should I be looking for another step up? Thanks!

I'm thinking the same thing, but it hurts to drop this much on such an old card... maybe when the new GPUs come out this and the 570 will finally fall below $100.
