I don't plan to install it and just run it out of box. My understanding is you only need to install it and surrender info if you want to customize the buttons/behavior, which these entry level ones wouldn't benefit much from (hopefully the games will recognize them as button 4 and button 5 without any custom software)
You also need to install the software to customize the RGB lights. Otherwise by default, it cycles thru all the colors. Also for the basilisk, it has a custom thumb trigger button in front of the back and forward buttons. You can program it to any specific action. This button by default doesn't work if you don't install the software.
I have both the not essential version of the basilisk and death adder. Both are great but I prefer the basilisk because it's more egornomic and has that custom programmable button many ppl use for sniper trigger button in games.
The tradeoff is a bit....off here
