Even with the online subscription, their reviews now leave much to be desired and the online navigation is clumsy and poorly designed. I have found many of their recommended products to be inferior to those they don't recommend.
I've been a subscriber for MANY years - they have lost their credibility IMO. I'm passing on this deal and will be canceling my online subscription this year.

Considering this is something one would want to refer to only once in a few months before a big purchase, and the potential to expose personal data is less, are there any means to pool money to buy a subscription?
At $10 a year, to be shared amongst 4, I think it is worth having 'just in case'.

I agree wholeheartedly. New Consumer Reports are devoid of useful information. The new Consumer Reports leadership has really lowered the usefulness of Consumer Reports, attempting to focus on things like health and financial advice instead of reviewing products. All their reviews are significantly shorter, often only highly a few products rather than the whole market segment, and don't include many technical specifics. I find myself reading Wirecutter more and more.

In your opinion, what is the best way to get unbiased and decent reviews, preferably free? Right now I'm using YouTube and various user reviews from online retailers like Amazon ECT to do my research before buying but perhaps there's a better way?
