Depending on what your need/preference is, I would say the 14 piece kit is a better deal. They're both 2nd gen. But if you added up the pieces individually, you'll save more with the 14 piece kit.

I don't care for the camera or screen, and prefer more motion and window sensors. So I think I'm going with the 14 piece kit.

So I have to pay for monitoring or can it be set up to notify by smart phone through the net?

I currently have the ring alarm in my home and it works fine. i'm curious as to why others chose the Ring alarm over say the google nest alarm or something else wireless?

If you're invested already in Alexa and/or other ring devices it makes sense to buy in the same eco-system .

Oops! I meant to post in the 14 piece thread. Either way, if you don't care about the echo show 5 you can get this same ring kit for $40 less on the ring website. It is on sale for $250 there but they have a 20% off coupon for students, military, first responders, or teachers.
