holy-moly!!!
No one expected R263 will be ever in-stock. There were out of stock for year or two.
Immediately bought a pair along with R12 sub. Now I have a whole Infinity setup:
R263+R263+RC263+R162+R162+R12. What a lucky day!
It'll work just fine but if you are the type that keeps speakers for a long time, the 263 center is well worth it. It's the gem of the entire lineup imho punching well above this class.
I'd go so far as to try and call Harmon and see what they say about availability. They might have a refurb to sell.
Thanks for the input. I just went ahead and ordered a new one from Amazon for 3 and change. Now I just have to unload some brand new 162's. In western PA if anyone is interested.

How do these compare to the pioneer andrew johns fs52 bs22lr? Thanks
The sony core bookshelves were an improvement in clarity over the pioneers.
Apparently the r162 infinities, some have said they sound better than the Sony's.
and then many people agree that the r263s are better than the r162s
I can't vouch for that, I've only tested out the Sony's and pioneers. I have yet to test all my new infinitys.
A lot of this is also due to sound distortion at higher levels. How well does a speaker sound if you're using a bookshelf at high levels?
The Sony bookshelves will begin to distort.
The r162 s, less so. Towers even less so.
Same. It showed delivery today when I completely my purchase - obviously that's not happening.
During their previous sale I got shipping email in maybe 8 hours or so. Now I am stuck for almost 2 days already. Just really want to complete this setup to a full set.

Given the delay, I'm now starting to waffle on the idea.
So after much reading, I ordered 4 Infinity Reference R263 Tower Speaker & a pair of Infinity Reference RS152 Surround Channel Speakers. This maybe the dumbest question here, so go easy on this noob - Is there anything that prevents me from using 2 of these towers as rears or center (in a 7.1) type setting ?
I ordered the RS152 just in case as backup in case the above decision is stupid but would potentially return that if I can get hold of the R162 or if it goes on sale anytime soon.

You can use the towers as rears but that would be super overkill. Surround rears are the least important and I doubt you'll notice much of a difference with the 152s. I think physically placing the tower as a center would be hard if you don't want to block anything. They are pretty tall
ahhh need coupon code :_( guess i have to wait for morning to call.
So are the R263s about as much bang for the buck you can get? This is about the upper end of my budget and I am looking for some towers for my second hand marantz to drive, starting to become interested in hi res audio.... seems like everyone is very excited to see these.
Now that I'll towers, I can't use bookshelf stands with bricks to prevent from falling over on the carpet .
I was thinking of using some gorilla tape on the tops of speakers and strong thin metal wire attached to a hook on the ceiling.
Then spray paint the gorilla tape on top of the speakers.
I could just drill hole and put a hook on the top of the speakers, but resale value.

Is RC263 the best center speaker. Are there any other centers that go well with R263 towers. What's the thought on RC252. I can wait for the RC263 to go on sale or look out for any other matching center you guys recommend. Thanks.
