Good laptop but non-HD screen is a deal killer It's ridiculous to use non-HD screens at these times.

One of my biggest tech regrets was getting a 768p laptop for schoolwork -- word processing, research, collaborative work, etc. is cramped and lousy (especially on a 15"). Anything less than 1080p is simply not worth it in my opinion.

'768' kills the deal. I wonder why they still produce screens like that? About 100 PPI? Really? Hello its 2020
Coz some people are fools and don't know nothing about tech. Like Apple fanbois. 2 cores $900 deal, let's buy it coz it's Apple.

This one, $300, let's buy it, must be a deal.

Very true. However you said don't buy garbage, yet recommend a refurbished. Refurbished computers are a hit or miss. You either get one thats perfect or you'll get a lemon. And refurbished usually isn't that much cheaper compared to newer models unless the refurbished model is several models old. And at that point it's on the way to become more obsolete sooner than later.
says dont buy garbage, literally buys a no name seller refurbished machine... what.jpg

Best Buy version is 1080 FHD. Not the same specs as this one. The BB version is definitely worth the extra $30
Maybe I missed it but do you have a link to this BB deal?

You'll understand when you're older. 4k laptop displays became meaningless to me in my early 40s, but I could still enjoy the benefits of FHD. I used to use a FHD 13.3" laptop until my mid-40s, but had to upgrade to a 14", then a 15.6" screen or the text got too small (with Windows scaling at 100%). Starting with my 50s I had to resort to progressive lenses to be able to focus close enough use my laptop screen at a comfortable distance. Progressive lenses aren't perfect - they create areas which are sharp and blurry. I'm at the point now where FHD on a 15.6" screen is just about at the limit of my eyes to see the pixels. Even now I frequently can't see the periods anymore. I would imagine for people in their 60s or 70s, a 15.6" 720p display is the best their eyes can see, and a 15.6" FHD screen would be wasted.

It's unfortunate that younger people often get stuck with a 720p laptop screen because they're trying to buy cheap. But the screens are in fact appropriate for a specific market segment.

I got 3 and it was a crazy good laptop for the price.
Got one for $220.
Two more for $280.

Motile 14 for life. 2.5lb goodness. Literally, a steal compare to this garbage.

True, my point is the screen is HD because HD is 720p. I agree it's not enough and my 4 years old Acer that I bought for 400$ has1080P display, so lower than 1080p on laptop should not offered in 2020 just like 4gb of ram
I would be cool if a budget laptop comes with NO ram but 2 free sodimm slots . Would prefer that to even 8GB of soldiered ram...lol...

Say NO! to anything lower than 1080p! that should def be the lowest standard res nowaday.

It's a one-way street. Meaning you can't go back to S mode afterwards. Make sure you know you won't be going back.
And not going back, means you're not able to limit the users to only Microsoft web browsers, or other applications installed through the Microsoft store. Similar to jail breaking an iPhone to access the full phone and installing apps from elsewhere.

You can always hard reset the OS if you change your mind, after backing up any files you need if you're the 0.00001% of people who care to.

Windows S is essentially the easy way they can sell to some corporations with a limited IT staff and easy the employees can only install trusted software and have little access to configure the machine as they please and risk breaking something.

More pixels, the more Computing Power your machine will need to render, i3 is better suited for lower resolution and 720 HD is fine.

No, not specifically, but here are some links from Clarkdeals; but check the End Of Life, or Auto Update Policy. Clark recommends purchasing refurbished chomebooks, but their AUP may expire soon or may have already expired.
