I would get this one and then buy a sub on your own that meets your needs. This one has a better center channel and better bookshelves which can make a big impact on overall quality.

I have a similar system at home (Same center, slightly lower end towers and bookshelfs) and really like it, and am often impressed by its realism. Fair point though, I have tweaked the EQ for specific speakers through my receiver. After the EQ tweaks I am very happy with how my system sounds.
Should i get this or the last set that was posted with the "S 809's, S 81 Center, S 801's, and the S 810 SUB"? that one is priced at $549, for context i'm looking to set up a home theater/VR game station.

I'm a noob with sound systems, I've been using a Blu-ray player with speaker outputs for years. Anybody know what a good receiver would be to have with this setup?

Start with a price range and go from there. I can name you the best reciever rated for 9.2 Dolby atmos that supports home automation. But that most likely be out of your price range.

I have this set-up with the S 808 sub and the S801 bookshelf speakers mounted higher up the wall.
We use this solely for music, so with that being said, I am very happy with all the Jamo products I've purchased and would certainly buy them again. This is my first real audio set-up and there is no complaints.
I use an Onkyo TX-NR686 for a receiver.
I paired this set (did white) with a RSL Speedwoofer and it's simply spectacular.
I'm glad I spent the money on a good woofer, made all the difference.
How well will the 807s or 803s fill a large open floorplan (600sq ft). I'm thinking of grabbing this to run 3.0 with the basement TV and 2.0 in the dining room / kitchen and living room. Would probably lead towards the 803 for the open floorplan since the floorstanders will go better with the TV.
When I buy a home I'd probably use them all in a 5.1 setup and buy another pair of speakers for the stereo role.

Does something under $200 sound feasible?
