these have been in stock in stores and online often surprised anyone would actually buy it locally for more
Not in NYC. There are still many people unwilling to go out shopping with Covid-19 still going on and many stores are boarded up for fear of being looted. Somehow though, all open stores I called were out of stock. Since I've never owned a 3DS/2DS, I've recently been looking for one and after missing this deal last week I made sure to get it today.
Any games folks recommend for this and is it worth owning if you have a switch already?
the 2ds can play any games from the DS or 3DS era. so it has an absurdly large library of games, the vast majority of which aren't on switch. link between worlds, luigi's mansion 1 & 2, and super mario 3D land spring to my mind first. 100 dollars is a great price to get access to the huge library.

I found a lot of success modding the system. It's a pretty simple process and there's a wealth of games that are fun to play. And aren't far off from what you'd expect to play on the switch. Definitely worth it, IMO.
Games : Pokémon ultra sun/moon, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, Ultimate NES remix, Metroid Samus Returns, Kirby: Planet Robobot to name a few.

**EDIT** It can play DS games via cartridge just fine.... I had a massive brain fart on this. My bad guys
MSRP. This thing is 3 years old and plays 9 year old games. The library is fantastic but don't expect any new releases. This is retro gaming now.
To be totally fair, only the point about new releases is valid. The switch is also three years old, and it uses an SoC that was released in 2015 . (And we have people whine about the SD845 being an "obsolete" SoC) That is why there are so many issues with framerate vs resolution in some third party switch games.
The real highway robbery is happening right now with pre-owned Wii U consoles. Theyre regularly going for well over $150 on the second-hand market, some over $200. I just modded mine and it is easily the *ultimate* Nintendo retro console. Easy to get games, and does Wii/GCN natively with 1080p.
Technically it can't play DS games without hacking or a special cartridge. But yeah, it's pretty easy. Debating picking up one so the wife and I can play wireless games together.... But she has kind of moved onto the switch anyways
oh interesting I had no idea it couldn't play ds games natively. figured if the cartridge fits, ya know...

The 2ds eshop has all the games you can't buy on the switch.

For $100, the 2DS / 3DS is well worth getting and the games are quite cheap.
