Without this ... you may very well lose the file that it was writing at the time of the crash entirely (though it may be recoverable to some degree), or at least the last few seconds of footage (which can't be recovered, as it was never written) -- which are likely to be critical.
Using an ultracapacitor is good in that it doesn't care about heat or cold -- for example, here in Texas your dashcam often sits in the sun all day and that heat ruins a battery with a quickness. Ultracapacatators don't care about the heat, and ought to last forever.
That said, ultracapacitors do have two downsides: they tend to be physically bigger than an appropriate battery would be (so the dashcam can't be made quite as small) and they tend to only carry enough power to run it for a few seconds rather than a few minutes or more. That said, a few seconds should be sufficient to write all collected data to the sdcard and probably finish the current file before shutting off.

It is not available now but I purchased it last week and yet to use. So thinking to buy this and return the mini if this is good.

What does the capacitor do?
I prefer the dash cam. I didn't try this particular model, but the one I had sucked as a regular mirror and you couldn't properly adjust what the Area you were recording since the screen only captured part of it. You would have to record and video and then play it to see what it's capturing (you only see like a 4th of what is displayed on the screen).
