However, I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to the 3 for the price of 2 promotion. Just a large conglomeration of randomness going on there.

You can narrow down to see what you want on the left hand side. I was looking for children's books, so I narrowed to books, then children's books, and sorted low to high. Plus, if you are looking for a certain book series (like Captain Underpants for example), you can put that in the little search that's on the top right of the items that are for sale. I was able to get some really good deals on orders of 3 children's books that way.
You can sort for different things though on the left side, like movies, video games, etc. Using the sort makes it a bit more manageable to look at.
