- Cables - You must check both the power and speed rating on your cables. Some cables are rated for 100W power, but only do USB 2.0 speeds. Some cables do Gen 2 10 Gbps speeds, but only 15W power. Some cables are advertised as Thunderbolt 3, but only at 20 Gbps. There are passive cables & active cables. They are different. Ratings are often falsely advertised. 100W ratings are sometimes only 60W.
Short story long - it's a headache.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.
But when NVME external drives far surpass the limits of the 6 Gbps SATA III spec, a new standard is needed. Or when your 8K TV at 60Hz requires more throughput than the 18Gbps found on the beefiest gauge HDMI cables, a new standard is needed. It's just a natural progression.
Sometimes new standards are rolled out intelligently. But, the Type-C rollout is a mess.
I hear you, brother. I'm still watching a 10 inch black and white TV. 4K 60 inch flat panel TVs are just a money grab. /S
Same. Glad i'm not alone. Black and white images are easier on the eyes allowing me to watch the tube for longer without the eye strain of 2k, 4k, 12k, etc.. Also it keeps the room nice and toasty during the cold months. For the summer, I installed a swamp cooler and blower to direct the cool air towards the back of the tube as it sits 15' behind the wall unit. Had to drill into the adjacent room to accommodate the large tube. Days worth of work and i'm still shaking my fist at the latest and greatest yuppies who buy that trash. They don't make them like the use to.
