Haier 9.8 cu. ft. Refrigerator, White $277

First time posting a deal, hopefully I get it right.

I picked up one of these refrigerators yesterday. Found it on clearance for $277.00. Regular price is $579.00 Currently shown on the website as on sale at $521.10

Several of the HD's around me have these available on clearance. We bought one, brought it home, and it was dented. Went to another store to exchange since I knew they had more stock. They'd only allow me to buy a new one, said I had to return the damaged fridge at the store from which I purchased (huge pita!). Our replacement had a couple small dings in it. I mention all this to let you know it looks like packaging isn't the best on these.

What else I know about the unit: Looks like the doors can be reversed to open from either side. The unit w/ packaging weighs ~133 LB. There is one side on the box that you can lay it down on for transport so read that carefully if you decide to not transport upright. According to GE if you transport on its side, don't plug in right away...leave the unit sitting upright for at least as long as it was laying on its side before energizing.

Do you by any chance have the packaging dimensions? I have Toyota Highlander and want to check if I can get it with back and middle seats closed down. Don't want to rent a truck (paying approx $50 in gas and rental charges), just to get this home.

I don't have exact dimensions handy right now. I can measure tonight. The packaging is pretty tight. If you need numbers asap it'd be safe to assuming about +2" for width and depth, about +5" on height compared to actual product dimensions. That puts you around 26x27x64

Looks to be smaller than your average fridge huh? I'd love a deal on a normal size one.

1. Anyone know if refrigerators can survive in an unheated garage in New England in winter?

2. Am I going to have to defrost this freezer?

Specs say frost free. I've been waiting so long for a deal on a medium sized fridge with auto defrosting like this one. I just don't want a white one.

My understanding is that fridge / freezer motors start having issues when you try to run them at lower temperatures.

I have an almost identical model fridge in my apartment. It's just meh. First one was replaced after it died after less than two yers (later turned out to be recalled). In any case, both models tend to end up freezing whatever is in the back of the top shelf of the fridge, and little plastic bits have broke off here and there. I can't believe the regular price on this...why would anyone buy it at that price when there are several cheaper options available? But if you can find one for $277, it's okayish.

You'll have to check the owner's manuals to see what room temperatures the unit can tolerate. This one says it's not designed to operate in temperatures below 55°F and above 95°F.

Go ahead, who is stopping you from whatever you want.
That is my opinion and I will stick to it.

I was at BestBuy looking for similar small refrigerators last weekend and some stores showed a 10.something cu.ft. for $188.
It was either Insigna or Whirlpool, I don't remember. It's not on their website.
Just a FYI, in case somebody is at BestBuy looking for one ...
