They're just called fans.

It's funny, it hasn't even been a particularly hot summer, yet fans have been flying... ehrr, blowing off store shelves like toilet paper from 2 months ago. I have a couple Vornados, and they're generally good fans with a great warranty. Given this price range, though, I wanted to add that I just bought one of those Woozoo remote control globe fans from Costco (based partially on a recommendation from another SD'er) and that fan is by far the best fan I've purchased. It's a Costco product, so there's no shilling... $45 in store and $50 online (sells for about $70 - $80 most everywhere else). It also oscillates up and down as well as right in left... and on low, it's just about silent. Even on high, it makes about the same amount or less noise than my Vornado (the better one) on low. At $45, I'd consider 2 of those as opposed to one of these.

Depends on how much you expect to use it on the lower settings. I plugged in some numbers, and assuming 30 watts/hr saved at 2hr/day at 15c/kWh, that's 10 years to recoup the $30 difference. Of course, with the shorter warranty, the cheaper one might be broken by then

Damn, so tempting. Got one of those $30 vornados from Costco. I love it, but the only thing I wish it had was a physical knob!!
I'm returning all the fans i got from costco and getting these instead. I have a nest theromstat and smart plugs. When it gets to a certain temp in the house the fans will turn on. The vornado's from costco won't turn on automatically. The extra money spent is worth not having to turn all the fans on.

You've completely missed the point. Nobody is suggesting no AC, but you may need fewer when combined with a solid air circulator.

Do you like saving money?

No (seems to be the apparent answer)
I live in the humid south so I can give my input on this. Getting another unit isn't the issue is the fact that the cool air being pumped in isn't moving around fast enough. I have 2 units in the house and about 8 box and vorando fans including ceiling fans. Turning all the fans off would signficantly push my a/c units to run 24/7 without rest. This puts a lot of wear and tear on the unit as most units aren't really designed to run non-stop for days on end.

Yes these fans are expensive but it makes a huge difference in both energy savings and putting less wear and tear on your a/c units.

I checked the woozoo's costco reviews, apparently it was on sale for $25 a few months ago?? Makes paying $50 a harder pill to swallow imo.
I do recall that claim, but I have been a Costco member for many years, and I had never previously seen this fan in ANY coupon book, or on sale in store for $25... and I have been looking at fans every time I visit my local Costco. That said, I bought a black one from Target and had then price match Costco online for $50, and then ended up going to the store (after the purchase) and found the white ones (first time ever) on display for $5 cheaper - $45. Everyone else is selling these for $70 or $80 and the guy that claimed they were $25 say he also paid $45... so even he couldn't verify the claim they were ever $25. Personally, I think that claim is wrong, but by all means, give Costco a call and verify for yourself. I will tell you, that they sold out online at $50... and I get every Costco coupon book and never saw them for $25 (which would be half off - more than the typical Costco discount). In addition, Costco is lower than EVERYONE else on these fans. And, again, I bought 2 I like it it so much.

What makes it energy efficient? Does it slow down from time to time?

It's a DC fan instead of AC.

Alright, I'm gonna get one. The costco woozoo is bigger than the ones sold on amazon for $38 (353 sq ft coverage vs 275) and the amazon one also doesn't have a remote, and I also don't see how the costo one can be sold for $25 when all other places sell this one for much more than $50. I will order more if this one is good. Thanks for the rec.

Lol, $50 for that size fan seemed high to me at first, but that other guy was going on and on about how great it was. At first I rolled my eyes, but then read all of the glowing reviews that matched his claims. There wasn't anyone that seemed to say anything negative about the fan. In addition to that, it comes with a remote and oscillates up and down as well as left and right... so, I thought, $50 wasn't that much when everywhere else was selling them for $70 - $80, and these bigger Vornados are going for $45 + as well (with no oscillation - or remote).

At any rate, lmk if you like it. I laughed at first, but when I tried it out, the damn thing is whisper quiet and the remote works awesome. In the end, $45 seemed kinda inexpensive for the fan. Oh, and it goes w/o saying... Costco has an amazing return policy if you don't like it (but that's unlikely).

How do have smart plugs turn on with nest? Looks like google shut down IFFT last year.

I'm in the same position... I have a single wall AC unit in my entry way that shoots cold air into my bedroom, but I spend most of my time in my living room which is off to the side. I've been using a box fan to try and move cold air into my living room, but it doesn't work too well when the temperature goes above 90*F.

My Vornado humidifier's water tank started leaking, and I called them on a whim not expecting anything. They had a new one at my doorstep in 2 days without even asking for proof of purchase/warranty or anything. Definitely considering this 633DC...
I would make sure that your coils are clean (inside and out) on that wall unit as well as the filter and close your bedroom door as needed to lessen the amount of space the AC needs to cool. We had window units before and know the struggle if it's too hot and they're having trouble keeping up.

Vornado is kind of like Apple where they don't need proof of purchase. For Vornado, they only need it if it's more than 5 years since manufacture but less than 5 since purchase. The label they ask for a photo of has the manufacture date which they base the warranty off, which is good if you don't have the receipt. For the most part their products are solid so you won't need the warranty but at least it's there.

They actually didn't even ask for any photos from me! I was so surprised, phone call was less than 5 minutes.

I have tried closing my bedroom door, but it results in my bedroom heating up insanely fast. Maybe I should just take the hit since it'll be a lot easier to cool the bedroom at night. It's a brand new AC unit less than a year old. I have looked at the filter for the inside portion, and it was pretty clean, but I don't really know a thing about the outdoor portion. It wasn't part of the routine maintenance though in the manual.

Trying to find a fan that moves so slow that it feels like a mild breeze. 3-speed fans are never slow enough. Can this run significantly slower than a 3-speed fan?
yes that's what this is perfect for as well, full rpm control, and large enough blades to not have turbulent air.

You can't compare vornado fans to other fans. You have to experience the difference yourself. It changed my life and helps de-swamp my buttocks

If anyone's asking about Vornado reputation:

Currently have and still use a Vornado cr1-0001 type 550 fan with the infinite speed knob (and U.S. made) and still kicking and going quietly, even after being kicked and tossed around for 10+ years with the family. It pushes a lot of air for such a tiny unit and quiet at low speeds, and having infinite speed adjustments is kinda nice to have. I have the Vornado 633 coming in soon so hopefully it'll be just as good or better than the current.
