SHARPENING To re-sharpen your knife, use a whetstone at an angle of 15°– 20°. This will result in a cutting angle of 30°– 40°. If sharpening on a grinding wheel, always cool with plenty of water to avoid excessive temperatures and the resulting damages that may occur. CLEANING If the blades of knife begin to stick together, open and close the blades in warm water several times - this will allow the tools to move easily again. Once dry, apply a drop of Swiss Army Knife Oil between each tool and its spring. Do not put Swiss Army Knives in the dishwasher. HISTORY & HERITAGE In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener opened a cutlery shop in Ibach, Switzerland. There, he and his cutlers’ union produced the finest steel cutlery, finished with the now-famous proprietary edge preferred globally by professionals and home cooks. Karl supplied the Swiss Army with its standard issue Soldier’s Knife and Officer’s Knife. After the death of his mother, and with the advent of stainless steel, Karl changed the name of the company to Victorinox. It is from those humble beginnings that a worldwide icon was born. Today, Victorinox is still owned and operated by the Elsener family, and both the company and family still resides in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland." |

I won't argue on price because I truly don't know. That's just what amazon says. My surge was about $85. It's only missing the cork screws and the hook (shoe lace tightener) from what I can tell. The tools it does have are heavier duty and superior. Further, the surge adds replaceable wire cutters, wire strippers, a lanyard loop (I'm counting it because it's no more different than the ridiculous hook), replaceable file/saw, and a bit kit (I use this frequently). In the end they're very different tools targeting very different uses. I daily carry my surge and don't have interest in a light smaller, lighter duty tool, but I'm sure this will be of interest for those that do.
Just my opinion, not a TD. Even at $10 more, the tool is absolutely worth it

I'll give you a few more tools, but none of them are lockable. I had a gf nearly amputate a finger with a tinker and it bit me a couple of times as well. Never happened with any Leatherman I've owned. And let's put those pliers up against a wave/surge/charge. SA are dangerous in my opinion.

I've been waiting for the $40 deals, even if it didn't have this many tools. Just scissors, knive, file, saw, cap opener, cork screw and small plier is good enough, some of the other tools on this look repetitive. Also, magnifying glass is a nice touch, but at that size is it even usable? Can you start a fire with that?
PS: been using the old compact one for over 20 years, despite being the cheapest model, scissors still cut fine (need to hold it right). These things are really nice.
I think I have this one in gray/silver: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006I...=emc_

I have a deal alert on for "knife". I might have been interested-just not at this price. I only commented because I noticed amazon had the original price at 62.99 which didn't seem like much of a mark down.
Also I do carry a more pocketable, lighter duty knife as well on occasion or in addition to my surge.
I've been pretty rough on them, used them in many ways not covered by any warranty and never had an issue. Only broken blade was from one I got as is at a yard sale! (Not sure how they managed that...)
Tried a bunch of other brands and models, IMHO nothing comes close to Victorinox steel... (Talking to you "Leatherman Wave" and your crappy flaking chrome finish!)
Side note : If you're ever looking for a multi-tool, look at the "Swisstool" from them and compare with a Leatherman. Much higher quality imho.
I'm the end, as said above, it all comes down to preference and use case.
