We switched to this dog food last year and have liked it. And no, I'm not an expert. I'm just saying our medium sized dog likes it and didn't get the runs when we did the multi-day transition from old food to new food.
Science diet used to be quality food you could trust. They've had multiple recalls just last year of both their regular and prescription food line. They're no stranger to recalls either. Buyer beware, if you have an animal with a condition, the food you feed them needs to be nourishment, not make them worse.
There's higher quality foods out there from brands that have higher quality control and no recall history.

I've tried those "healthier" more expensive brands but this is the only one that keeps my cats stool normal and not a big watery mess

"Most recently, in January 2019, Hill's Pet Nutrition issued a massive, worldwide recall of 33 different varieties of its canned dog foods — 22 million cans recalled in all — because of toxic levels of Vitamin D, which Hill's blamed on a "supplier error." ... Reportedly hundreds of dogs died after eating the affected dog food." - https://www.petful.com/brands/hil...ence-diet/

What "high quality" brands would you recommend then?
I recently adopted a puppy and the vet recommended Hill's Science.

I am a first time dog owner, and I will tell you this, each dog/puppy is different. My puppy is just a fussy eater and it really doesn't matter what I have tried, I wish I ate like her(I would at least drop a few pounds). Also one has to be gentle when one switches, as some of these foods just don't sit well with their stomach and they have the runs, even when one practices a gradual switch method.
I wanted the best for my puppy too but I just gave up and went with hill's as she at least eats this.
