I have a dozen pairs of speedcross 3 and '4. My only hesitation about these is if they're even narrower.
Apparently they went back to a wider toe box for this iteration. Been looking at reviews through several well known sites and that was one thing consistent I saw. I too am a wider toe guy, so Salomon is rarely on my radar, but I may bite the bullet with these

FWIW I tried these on during a past Bass Pro deal and they are like cleats. That may be ok for some but not what I was looking for in a general hiking shoe that I could wear on pavement too.

They look like straight football cleats. I wouldn't want to run in these though I'm not a big trail runner so maybe they appeal to some.
Any true badass will do some proper trail running along with normal pavement running. Trail will build up your legs in a way pavement just can't, naturally.
And I say that because these shoes are true trail off road shoes. My Navy seals buddies wear them.
The 5s are supposed to be wider than the 4. These do come in a wide version as well, but those don't go on sale often and aren't offered here. I've seen 30% off the wide version from Salomon directly once but haven't seen better.

I own the 4's and the 5's and I can assure you that the 5's are not as narrow as the 4's. I use them both as hiking shoes and as paintball cleats and I much prefer the 5's for overall comfort. The 5's also have a little better ankle support as well.
Ordered a pair first, then read about it to see what I bought. Was hoping it would have a waterproof/breathable membrane since I've been running part of the Silver falls loop, and it's always wet. Also thinking it would make good approach shoes on glaciers. Probably fine, I'll just have extra socks. Hope sizing runs normal.
