It seems like at most this is a couple bucks off Amazon's everyday price. It's floated around $19-$20 on Camel Camel Camel for months. It's also available elsewhere for similar prices:

These are trrrraaaaaassssshhhhhh! Ignore any sponsored video that tries to pretend like these work well. I go camping and fishing a lot and tried this product and even bought the huge set with tons of butane and pads. The device itself stopped working after 2 years but I venture to say it never worked as we constantly got harassed by mosquitoes as if it didn't exist.

The only effective method against mosquito is covering your skin in a chemical that they will not land or touch. Don't trust those stupid bands around your wrist or other gimmicks people try to sell all over. Testing has been done and nothing is even close to deet and other chemicals at effectiveness.

There is a youtube channel where they test these products in a controlled environment and in the name of science this dude gets bit a lot. Nothing is effective like deet.

To be honest I would disagree. We camp and go to the beach every other weekend for the past two years. We won't cook or eat at our campsite without one of these running. Do they prevent every single type of bug? Not at all. It does keep the majority of them away though. I was hoping to buy a second one to keep around the house for the back porch. To each his own... they work just fine for me.

I'll add my .02 as well. Ours work relatively well if the packets are fresh. Seems to work as well as a citronella candle. However, we got bitten when I used an old unopened packet that had been on my shelf for a year. IMHO nothing works better than DEET, but this is a convenient little gadget for the backyard dinner table.

I used to use these when I was a security officer in a mosquito haven. It may not be perfect, but it did help a TON.

No offense but I stopped reading when you said you cook around this. You do understand this releases a toxin and it specifically states to never use it around food? Enjoy your chemical induced leukemia in a bottle.
Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

The thing sits a good 10ft away from our food while we're cooking (outdoors mind you) so I'm not worried about it. Cooking aside I wanted other people to know that these work just fine for keeping bugs away contrary to what you say. It's one of the top recommended products on RV forums I frequent whenever people ask how to keep bugs away from their campsites for a reason.

Yeah, that's where these products are shilled hard. They won't be able to point to a single study done on it to actually show it's effective. There are countless videos showing how ineffective they are though. USDA Mosquito and Fly Research Unit in Gainesville, Florida is the leaders in mosquito research and they bluntly state it doesn't work as advertised and isn't effective at all against preventing mosquito bites, which is what people buy them for. Deet is the solution, and everything else has tested as ineffective. Science is science. Shilled deals are shilled deals. Almost everyone recommending it have affiliate links for a reason. It's how they get paid.

i have used their mr150 (still have it) and it worked for me but loses its effectiveness when very windy, not perfect but a noticeable difference
(also you can make own pads and fill your own butane to cut a few corners just google how to)

i think some people are confusing these with those sound emitters (which are total junk)
i tend to get bit ALOT became desperate and other than spraying my skin these were one of the few things that actually helped but conditions need to be somewhat ideal (when its very windy its not as effective period) humidity may also play a factor but i cant speak to that but i did notice a difference on windy days (use for my gazebo)

I've got to disagree too. It may not completely get rid of all mosquitoes but it helps a ton in my experience. I've been using them for around 4 years now and it's pretty noticeable when you forget it vs when it's running. ~95% effective for me.

Yeah, I was paying full price for all the refill butanes/little square things too. I had zero regrets, it made it livable, meanwhile my buddies at other stations would come back looking like they hav chicken pox. The mosquitos in Alaska was really that awful.

I didn't mind wind, it would help blow the suckers away, but yes that would indeed decrease the effective output I assume.

Been using this product for years, and I couldn't disagree more with this. I'll admit I originally had my doubts but it has proven itself time after time over the years. Mosquitoes start to come out, fire up the Thermacell. 10 minutes later they're either gone or drastically reduced (as long as it's not windy). We commented on the difference it makes just last night after chasing the skeeters away. Maybe your flame wasn't lit. On our original unit the flame would go out from time to time. We could always tell when it went out because we'd start to get bit again, so eventually replaced it. I'm a big fan of this product and it's made a big difference for us. Just make sure the flame stays lit and it works well.

I've been an outdoorsman my whole life. I hate hype and over promised garbage. I assumed this was like all the other BS marketing claims out there. I'm no shill, look at my account.

I live down south. Had a buddy from the city fishing with me once. The mosquitos were so thick you could see clouds of them since we were down by some standing water. They were tearing us up! He pulls out one of these expensive gadgets so I laughed and made fun of him. I'm completely honest when I say that within 20 mins, the bites almost stopped completely and the cloud of skeeters around us were almost non existent. I was amazed. Needless to say, I bought one the next day. It's expensive to buy the refills but it works and is well worth a pleasant day outdoors. I now own 3 of them and in the summer down here it's a must have. Combine with bug spray and I don't even think about skeeters any more.

As far as the price this is ok. Usually 20-25 on amazon or Walmart.
